Friendship Club is for adults eighteen years and older with developmental disabilities . The purpose of this group is to teach basic truths about God, and to foster friendships among the attendees. Each "friend" has a volunteer called a mentor who is with them throughout the meeting. All volunteers are screened, including a background check, before being allowed to participate in the Friendship Club. Mentors assist the friends in understanding the bible story, learning the unit verse, and in prayer, as the friend's abilities allow. The mentor also encourages interaction with others as is appropriate and comfortable for their friend. The evening is structured throughout, including time for worship, ending with a snack and time to socialize. Curriculum used is designed for adults with developmental disabilities. Friends and mentors also participate in various church and community activities. Many opportunities to serve are provided, such as supporting & staying in touch with a Compassion Child.
